Defining Obesity
The Center for Disease Control reports that 40% of Americans are clinically obese with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or above. Seven of the top 10 leading causes of death in the U.S. have connections to obesity. These include heart disease, cancer (breast and colon), stroke, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, Nephritis, and suicide.
It's Not Just About Body Image
Obesity is not an issue with body image as much as a metabolic disease. If you have diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, fatty liver disease, or acid reflux disease and you have a BMI of at least 40, you could be obese and eligible for bariatric surgery. Obesity can be the cause of these complications as well as colon, breast, and endometrial cancer.
With the myriad of complications that come with obesity, it has become less of an issue and more of a life-threatening matter. It’s essential that if you are obese and having trouble with losing weight, you see a doctor and examine options that could help you lose weight.
Am I A Candidate?
When looking at the option of bariatric surgery, make sure that this is the best choice possible for your weight loss needs. Candidates who have struggled with obesity and its associated medical problems while have difficulty losing weight are prime candidates for weight loss surgery. If you have undergone weight loss surgery and are having complications with it, then reach out to the office or your doctor, and we can make corrections to any issues you are experiencing.

Post Surgery
After surgery, you can expect to experience a reduction in hunger, and you will not be able to eat as much food as you could before. However, surgery is not a quick fix for your obesity. You will have to undergo strict lifestyle changes to reach your goal weight. Commitment to your diet and exercise regimen is paramount for success and long-term fulfillment.
These types of surgeries require a commitment to post-operation diets and exercise programs. If you are unable to follow the programs, then you could cause severe damage to your body. Please put serious thought into your commitment to this process before consulting your doctor. Your doctor can evaluate your candidacy for bariatric surgery after you have considered your options and are still interested in this process.

Andrea Taylor Before And After Healthy Lifestyle Journey
I have struggled with my weight since I was 18. My weight became more of an issue as I got older. I tried every diet and exercise program on the market but I was only able to lose about 20 pounds. When I heard about Dr. Eggl, I discussed it with my husband and we went to a seminar at Dr. Eggl’s office. I had the elective gastric bypass surgery November 10th, 2015. I am now 53 years old and feel like I got 30 years of my life back.
Bena Damgaard Before And After Losing 158 Lbs
Weight loss surgery was not something I rushed into. I gave it a lot of thought prior to deciding I wanted to have gastric bypass. That’s when I met with Dr. Eggl. I felt confident in his abilities and more importantly, I could tell that he was invested in his patients. I am so glad that I went to Dr. Eggl. He was amazing throughout the entire process. In the past year, I have lost 158lbs. More importantly, I’m living a healthy, active life with my family.
